Heiner (Vienna: Kärntner Strasse)

By in Vienna

One last stop to cake shop on our last day at Vienna. Heiner is another old school patisserie and cafe dates back from the 1800s. The first floor is a shop while 2nd floor is the dine-in cafe area. The interior is very old school with gold edges and coo coo clocks, like a Grandma’s living room.

Like other patisserie we went in Vienna, you picked the items you want from the display window and let the server know what you want. Heiner’s open face sandwiches were clearly not as refine and pretty as Sluka’s.

Both are good!

kaisermelange: Egg yolk whipped with sugar and cognac in black coffee and a little milk. The liquor was quite strong tasting.

The cakes were good but not fantasatic. The Esterhazytorte was definitely not as good as Demel’s.

Of all the patisseries we tried on this trip, our favorite was definitely Sluka. Demel and Sacher came in 2nd with Heiner last. This concluded our eating report of Vienna. Next entry, back to LA!

    Oh it is the last entry?? ToT
    Kaisermelange looks more like a dessert than a drink!

    btw, I read about something scary: “One piece of coffee crumb cake and a Frappuccino with whipped cream at Starbucks (1,180 calories total) adds up to more than a Big Mac, medium fries and a soda (1,060 calories).” What the….

    hahaha, yeah the interior (esp. sofas and wallpaper) does look old-school!
    but sorta like 60-s old school?
    I wonder why they don’t go for real old school—antique look.

    but its nice how all those cafes carry sandwiches as well as pastries!

    There’re actually a few more Vienna entry, but they’re just hip cafe/bar where we had beer and salad, nothing impressive to blog about. Back to LA!!! 😀

    I can’t believe the starbuck coffee has so much calories…you’d think…maybe the coffee ‘balance out’…guess not…^^;;

    Ha Valentine, I think it’s more like 70s or early 80s looking, Vienna is full of that vibe (gold molding, marble, floral pattern) that reminds me of those dated wannabe-Euro luxury look from 70s-80s Asia, trying to appear ‘grand’ and ‘expensive’ ^^;;
