Cafe Marly (Melrose)

Nice patio~ the good thing about this place is the combination dinner (salad/soup + entree). Though the waiter was forgetful, whatever we asked for (wine) he never brought them, we had to remind him again and again. 🙁

Lamb Chop, quite good~ 😀

Mussels and fries, the white wine in the sauce is a bit too heavy~ Pretty standard usual country French food, it’s very close by so a good alternative if I ever crave French lamb chop.

Roscoe’s House of Chicken’ n Waffle (Gower)

I heard about this famous soul food place a lot but this is my first visit. Again if weren’t for lunching with the guys it would take me forever to venture into this seemingly heavy high cholestrol place. I’m not sure why the combination of fried chicken and waffle, but I wasn’t in the mood for fried chicken so I got the Natalie’s special: 2 fantastically prepared waffles made with their own mix. The waffles are fresh and light. The big blobs of melting butter were very hard to resist. Sunrise, orange juice + lemonade.

No.13 on the menu Carol C. Special: 1 succulent breast, 1 delicious waffle, is one of the most popular items. A vegetarian collegue got the buckwheat waffle and said it wasn’t as good. Another collegue got the E-Z Ed’s special which came with fried chicken liver. It’s quite delicious but I’m not so sure about eating an enitre plate of it. I felt very full for the rest of the day. Definitely a guilty pleasure meal that’s best not to consume too much!

Angel Maid Bakery (Centinela)

//// By in 11: West LA

I passed by this not-so-pretty bakery near my office everyday, I finally went in and found that it’s Japaense pastry! The cakes I got: Mango Mousse, Raspberry and Mocha…are all very good. The cake moist and flavoredly soaked, the bottom layer has chocolate flakes and nuts. The cream puffs was a bit stale though. But really what a BLESSING that actually worked so close to a wonderful pastries place! 😀 (why didn’t I discover it sooner?) add: 4538 S Centinela Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90066

Crème de la Crêpe (Hermosa Beach)

//// By in 17: South Bay

DSC00177.jpgDSC00180.jpg
Marine: Fresh scallops and shrimps prepared in a white marine sauce (jumbo scallop, sauce a bit light but taste very fresh), Montagnarde: Raclette cheese over proscuitto and potatoes cornichons (love the stinky cheese).
DSC00183.jpgCrème de la crêpe: Bananas, nutella, coconut, “Flambé” with Grand Marnier. Didn’t have Sunday brunch for two weeks in a roll, instead we’ve been driving out to the beach. We found this authentic French creperie‘Crème de la Crêpe’ at Hermosa Beach. French Crepes on France vs Korea World Cup game~ 😀 The entire restaurant turn their seats and clue their eyes to the screen, all the waiters (all dressed in French team uniform) and chefs stopped working (and customers stopped eating) at the last 20 mins of the game. When Korea tied that goal, everyone screamed in horror and disbelief. After the game’s over, the waiters were all a bit down (Group G’s situation is so intense now). An Italian guy walked by and asked the waiters outside “did you guys won?” “No…tied…” “Ah that’s too bad, that’s what happened to us yesterday too…” (it was more painful for the Italians really).

The Pig (La Brea)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSCN7592.jpgDSCN7591.jpg
Beef Brisket Plate apple-wood-smoked beef slices served with “world championship” sweet mustard sauce. I got sides of potato salad, cole slaw and corn bread. The beef brisket is soft and I love the sauce. 5 bones baby back ribs hickory-smoked dry-rub ribs made with “world championship” recipe.

BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich. 9 bones St. Louis-style Spare Ribs Hickory-smoked with sweet and sassy sauce, with sides of mashed potatoes and corns.

A BBQ ribs place called The Pig is the kind of place I wouldn’t have gone if weren’t for lunching with a bunch of male co-workers. In fact I was the only female at the restaurants. The guys love it, they clean out their plates. The Pig sells different kinds of of their own BBQ sauces. I tried the ones on the table and I like the smokin’ spicy barbeque sauce the most.
