Honey’s Kettle Fried Chicken (Culver City)

//// By in 13: Culver City

A friend of mine got this ‘buy one get one free’ discount coupon to this Southern fried chicken place. It was originally from Compton, and this nice one at Culver City is all slick with giant TV. Lemonade and Fried Chicken. It came with an extremely buttery biscuit (golden and tempting but really, the intense butter taste scared me ^^:;), fries and ‘secret sauce’ (taste like tabasco + sweet & sour). The fried chicken are so crispy and light, the meat very moist and tender. VERY GOOD! *q* Later I read that their chicken potpie is very good too. I’d love to try their honey sauce with the fried chicken next time.

DSCN7674.jpgRead about this ice-cream place on free paper LA Alternative, I knew that this place is a must go. The owner makes different flavors every day, I got the Jack fruit and lychee and Tiramisu. Both very good! There’s a “flavor to suggest” board on the wall where you can write down flavors ideas. People have put down interesting ones like jasmine tea, root beer…etc. We talked to the owner and suggested crazy flavors like kim chi, nyquil ^^;; He told us that he has done unlikely flavors like wasabi (which cured his friend’s sinus), beet, oolong tea…and he’s working on a Guinness flavor and let us sampled it. Very charming place, can’t wait to go back and try more!

Grilled octopus is so soft and tasty~ The Japanese Mackerel is very good (I used to only have it cooked and fishy) and the clams is so good too. Uni…*heaven*

I missed taking pictures of more sashimi and sushi here and there. Also I was a bit embarassed that the waitresses all recognize Joan as she came here TOO often with her friend. ^^;;

Sweet & sour potato salad, not sure how authentic is this but it’s yummy. My friend think it’s the best dish of the restaurant. The flavor can get a bit too strong as I keep eating, better to eat it with naan.

Forgot what my friend’s dish was, it’s chicken and I like it better than mine. I got the Lamb, the meat is a bit chewy and overcook. Both are pretty good, not amazing. I felt the sauce could have more subtle flavors. I wish I got the seafood dishes instead, as there aren’t many Indian places do seafood in LA, said my friend.
DSCN7629.jpgChocolate samosa. Basically a samosa with chocolate inside. A little plain. The giant wooden metal gates at the exterior always intrigued me whenever I drove by this place. Though I never gave it try because the idea of chi chi trendy Indian restaurant just doesn’t sit right with me. Due to a change of plan my friend and I end up here. The interior was even more chí chí and over-the-top than I expected. The bar/lounge area has very nice ambience and there were bollywood movies playing on screens. Overall the vibe is very un-silver lake-ish, it’s more like a West Hollywood place. Even the waitresses were those typical actress/model-wannabe Hollywood type too -__-;;; hmm….as I didn’t expect much from the food, they turn out alright, though it’s probably better to go there for the “bar/lounge” than for the food. So the search for a favorite Indian place continues…
