The Hungry Cat (Hollywood)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSCN7378.jpgDSCN7383.jpg

We’ve been looking forward to try this place for awhile. It’s from the same owner of A.O.C.. They open for lunch recently and Michelle treated couple of us (from the job-from-nightmare team). Fish Tacos, special of the day. the PUG burger-bacon, avocado and blue cheese.

Lobster roll w/ Longley fries, the lobster roll is very good, but the fries were a bit soggy and dry. Spicy local squid salad w/ frisee and apple , tasty but a bit too much sauce. The squid is smooth and soft, wish there were more pieces.

DSCN7385.jpgvanilla beignets w/ blackberry compote, the only dessert they have. Hmm…very very so-so. Perhpas it’s just the nature of beignets, they’re really just donut….the blackberry sauce is not bad, a bit too strong tasting though. Overall not as impressive as A.O.C. The food are quite pricey too.

Baskin Robbins ice-cream treat

//// By in 18: Greater LA

DSCN7370.jpgDuring one of those crazy late nights at work, our producer Marissa got us these super cute ice-cream treats from Baskin Robbins! She got them in different flavors and I got the mint chocolate chip one. The ice-cream itself is great, though the colorful clown face decor tasted really toxic ^^;; (took awhile to scrap them off) It definitely brigthen our miserable work nights!

Le Marmiton (Marina del Rey)

//// By in 14: Marina del Rey

DSC09584.jpg
DSC09591.jpgThe owner of the charming neighborhood French bistro Le Marmiton (see old entries) opened a sister restaurant in the slick renew mall of Marina del Rey. Even though they share the same name, this new one’s interior is cold, high-end and designed…complete opposite to the original cozy one with homemade pastries and gourmet goodies counter. My disappointment doesn’t stop here: the menu is minimal (half Italian) and more pricey (entree are $20+ range, sandwich $14+). There’s no choice for Pate. I only get 2 small blocks (without the jelly top) and excess of ham. 🙁 It just felt like a completely different restaurant…the kind I normally wouldn’t go. ^^;; I didn’t try their entree or pizza/pasta, maybe they’re redeemable…

Carbonara (sort of)

//// By in Food: Kitchen

DSC09570.jpgI tried my hands on Carbonara, it started off wrong already because I forgot Bacon (!), so I subtitude with Salmon and Prosciutto. Without bacon oil it’s just not the same. I added too much egg as well. I added egg in the beginner way: blend in the bowl with cream , because in proper way you’re supposed to add the egg on the heated pan with the sauce (but an awkward hand will result in stir-friend egg). It also has sweet onion and mushroom. Despite how it looks, it is tasty~ 😀

It’s tax time~~ T__T The slowness of the blog indicates we’re really dried on budget these days. On top of that Joan has fallen ill, again. Due to an intense project at work, Joan has been coming home late, at first at 2am, then 5am, and at least the latest record: 7am in the morning. O_o

La Bottega Marino (Larchmont)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

Didn’t wake up early enough but we still had breakfast at this charming Italian place at Larchmont.
DSC09541.jpg
Polenta pancake, so delicious! Reminds me of Chinese’s radish cake.
DSC09537.jpgDSC09547.jpg
Saffron Risotto pancake, I’ve never had risotto in breakfast context~ :d
DSC09544.jpgItalian sauage. There’re so many yummy items on menu that I wanted to try them all. Joan came here for lunch and pasta before but she couldn’t remember much (!?) Well I’m the type of person who would eat breakfast food as lunch in regular work days anyway…^^;;
