Mediternia Cafe (Abbot Kinney)

Love the outdoor table cloth! We were running late for brunch and this cafe was one of the few places that still opens at Abbot Kinney. Homemade Waffle with sausage, very good, fresh and soft. The sausages are normal though, the ones from last week were a lot better. Freda ordered a Salmon Salad and by the time I finished my waffle it still hadn’t come. -__-|||We checked with the waiter a dozen time, every time he said “it’s almost done…just few more minutes” and it just never comes! Apparently they ran out of salmon and had to get one from the restaurant next door blah blah blah…I think we waited over an hour. The waiters were being very apologetic and promised not to charge us a dime,which was nice of them. We couldn’t wait any longer so they gave us free gelato as compensation. The gelato were very yummy. It’s too bad we couldn’t try the salmon salad because the food at this place seems good. Hopefully we’ll have better luck next time if we ever go back.

Pho (Silver Lake)

DSC08958.jpgThis signless restaurant in a mini-mall is one of the two vietnamese places in the hipster/Mexican neighborhood. While it’s very authentic and down to earth, the menu is very minimal. The cripsy egg vegetable crepe came ‘unwrapped’ and we made an ugly mess. ^^;; The beef are very tender, though the broth is a bit light and not onion-sweet enough for my taste. Good cheap eat though.

Roomba

//// By in Shopping

roomba.jpgIt’s been more than 2 weeks in our new house and it’s feeling dusty. Unless they’re Henry, I hate most vacuums…they’re like these noisy too heavy to handle monsters. So I bought a Roomba, those robot vaccum cleaner I heard so much about. I didn’t do any research and didn’t know about different models and got the mid-level one. It runs around and clean the house while we’re away. After it’s done (depending on your command: clean for 60 minutes or until the battery dies) it’d go back automatically to its homebase charger. Best of all, it fits under bed and shelves to clean those hard to reach places. When I came back from work, I found the floors…clean…so I guess it worked!?. The only concern I have now is how to clean and maintain the robot. I read that it work best in a large open room, which is what our house is like…so it’s perfect.

Bell Pepper sauce Fusilli with shrimp is so good (the sauce especially)! *O*
DSC08939.jpgApple Walnut vinaigrette salad with grilled chicken, a bit strong but I’m not the one to complain about being too salty ^^;;. Joan always come to this Latin American restaurant during work and this is my first time. We skipped two Italian restaurants to come back here. That shows my craving for Italian is forever ruined… (another one: I didn’t have any urge to eat any Italian when I’m at NY…)

Magnolia (Sunset Blvd)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

magnolia03.jpgMet up with a friend at this new Italian place on Sunset. Funny to see a big group of employees from Picture Mill (one of IF’s main competitors) there. My friend got the Lobster Ravioli and I got the Bolognese. As someone who doesn’t get excite about Italian food, I really enjoy these two dishes a lot, particularly the Lobster Ravioli. The skin is so soft and fresh. The sauce for both dishes are great with subtle multiple flavors, not the usual predictable taste you get from most Italian places. Good to find a new walking distance lunching spot that’s good!
