Otafuku (NYC: East Village)

//// By in 03: NYC

DSC08735.jpgSeems like I do have Japanese food a bit too often in NYC ^^;; Remember this disaster?, there’s a tiny Takoyaki place in East village here that cook Okonomiyaki for you. Before going to movie I snacked here. The place is so tiny that there’s only a 2 seat bench outside. It took rather long to wait for the cooking. And turns out it’s not fully cooked, still a bit floury. 🙁 I think my disaster tasted better as it’s more burnt. I saw Brokeback Mountain btw, beautiful film, very good~

Souen (NYC: East Village)

If possible, I’d want to come back to this Macrobiotic restaurant Souen as often as I could. I came here for breakfast and had the Mochi Waffle with Yanou (Grain coffee). The Mochi waffle was a bit hard, or else it’d be good. I’m strangely addicted to the fake coffee made with grain, it’s like ‘Malta’ drink. They have very good branch set as well, with fish, tofu…etc. very full set (too bad I’m the type who must have western food for breakfast ^^;;).

M Cafe de Chaya

DSCN7040.jpgA little break from NY and back to LA from Joan. So I didn’t have a good impression on this place last time, but I promised to give it another try because so many people raved about it (it became a once-a-week-eat out place for a lot of co-workers). This time I stick with their salad and fish (which is the only real meat they serve). Tuna Tataki Salad. Oh my it taste so great! The fish and vegetable all taste incredibly fresh and I love the sauce. Stan got the Tuna Burger and he said it’s probably the best burger he has ever had. As I learned my lesson from last time, I stick with the standard chocolate flavor and got the Chocolate pear mousse cake. I like it a lot too, the mousse texture almost taste like tofu pudding, the sweetness is subtle since they don’t use sugar. A very smily Kristin Dunst and her gal pal were sitting next to us! 😀

AH so the next night I know better and stick to my natural habitat: cute French cafe! ^^;;; Lots of loners and cooler people, yeh! Regular French cafe food…no expectation no disappointment. The Mushroom pate is very chewy and nice. However that coffee (very good) kept me awake all night.

Cendrillon (NYC: Soho)

//// By in 03: NYC

DSC08688.jpgI always tried to get out earlier working so I get to do a bit of shopping; the stores here closed surprisingly early. I saw this Filipino+Japanese fusion place at Soho. Turns out it’s an overpriced place, and all asian girl + white man couples filling up the entire place that night. (so awkward and uncomfortable being alone…). Grilled oxtail kare-kare (oxtail braised in tomatoes & peanut with longbeans & eggplant with fermented shrimp paste), doesn’t taste as good as it sounds. There’re a lot of curry on the menu and I don’t see much Japanese side really. There was also a bit of commotion: a mysterious cellphone kept ringing the entire night and no one figure out where it came from. Phantom phone call from another space and time maybe…
