Negrill Chelsea (NYC: Chelsea)

DSC08667.jpgWhen it’s not too busy at work we tried to explore around for a good longer lunch (instead of deli food all the time). Menupages.com is a great resource and I found this Jamaican restaurant Negril. I had the Ackee & Saltfish, Jamaica’s favorite exotic fruit (and national dish) cook-up with saltfish. Ackee is the mango-like exotic fruit, can’t really tell how it’s really like as it’s cooked. Very tasty and flavored but gets too salty by the end of the meal. My co-worker has the Oxtrail & Lima Bean Stew, very good. This place has lots of tropical drinks and cocktails too (but didn’t try, don’t want to get too laid back on a work lunch).

dim sum (NYC: Chinatown)

So I went with Noami and her bf for dim sum in Chinatown, the restaurant is called something else in Chinese but as usual called something 88 in English. It is inside a very 70s mall with chandelier, escalators, lightboxed waterfall photographs…it is truly frozen in time. It is quite empty so I figure this place can’t be that good. There were only the same 4 carts circling around with same dishes. The dishes are mediocre, the sweet stuffs are better. After we paid at the cashier and about to leave, the manager ran after us demanding “tips! tips!” in English (he never paid attention to us before). The lady waved our tips in the background to let him know. Sheesh…

Ginger (too tame, not spicy enough) and Black Sesame + Greentea (black sesame is the best!).
DSC08700.jpgPumpkin Pie flavor. Heavy pouring rain yesterday, what a bad day to go to Chinatown! The already narrow, crowded and vibrant city is even more chaotic with all the umbrella joustle. But at least the weather was still warm enough to eat icecream. It locates at this block full of Shanghai restaurants. There’s a H

Back to normal

//// By in Travel

DSC08721.jpgFor one whole week NYC’s weather was abnormally warm (they called it ‘heat wave’ and people asked me if it feel like LA). Yesterday there was a never ending rain and snow storm and today the weather is back to normal = bitterly freezing. I got so used to the heat, I was just about to complain how I brought all these heavy clothes for nothing….
