Beard Papa’s (Hollywood)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

A Japanese cream puff chain Beard Papa’s opens a store in LA at the toursitsy glitzy Hollywood & Highland mall, aka BAD LOCATION that I have no reason to go to! -__-;;;; Then I ran out of foundation in the middle of week so I had to run to the nearest makeup store during my precious lunch time, so that brought me to that mall, which gave me a chance to try those cream puffs! I got a box of six, three custard three chocolate. Though I didn’t get the chance to eat them until the next day (work till midnight @_@ left them at car so too lazy to get them). It’s not as fresh anymore, but they still taste very good! The puff is soft and melt in your mouth, the cream is light and not too sweet. I found the custard one better than chocolate. Got a free keychain with the purchase.

Yes Cafe (Alhambra)

Bacon wrapped asparagus & Veggie bun set.
DSC06792.jpgBack to this Taiwanese madam cafe ^^;; Their meal is pretty good! Especially the veggie bun (inside are mushroom, tofu..etc.). I overheard a conversation between a customer and the boss. Seems like it is opened by a wealthy madam, so managing it is like her…hobby and the food and interior (and those ‘light’ music) obviously reflecting her taste. She was wrapping gift tea boxes set. I imagine a conversation between her friends how they wanted a ‘haven’ for non-boba teenage-oriented Taiwanese tea/coffee house where you drink tea from a floral tea cup.

Very good Sour Plum Soup, Pork Noodle.
DSC06779.jpgTainan Ground Pork with Mushroom Dry Noodle. More Taiwanese deli food! It’s a Taiwanese chained. We used to survive on these during University. Though never a fan of Taiwanese food, I always crave that fried pork.

Very good Ginger Milk Tea, very yummy Beef Noodle.
DSC06776.jpgPlaces like this is not blog worthy but to prove our budget eating…^^;; Budget = chinese deli food. ^^;; This local Taiwanese cafe make the best milk tea, and has surprisingly tasty food. The downside is that they blast very annoying Chinese pop songs and it’s a magnet for Asian teenagers. Indeed my guilty pleasure place.

Taix (Echo Park)

//// By in 05: Silver Lake + Echo Park

Ok not really budget eating but we felt like celebrating last week.
DSC06735.jpgDSC06743.jpg
Veggie soup, Belgian endive salad with Roquefort cheese and garlic croutons. Fresh and delicious!
DSC06734.jpgDSC06741.jpg
Clam Chowder, Trout Almondine, Good! Crispy, buttery but not heavy.
DSC06747.jpgOur eyes nearly popped out as we saw the soup that came along with the entree. O,O Giant pot of soup that can serves at least 4 plates. We only managed to ate half. Taix is a 78 years old French country restaurant, very big and 70s fancy interior inside but it is more of a family restaurant vibe. Very unpretentious and friendly service. It also has a lounge area. Afterward I read recommendation that their escargot and lamb chop are very good, gotta try it next time.
