Yabu (Culver City)

//// By in 13: Culver City, Favorite Food Entries

DSC04480.jpgDSC04482.jpgWent to Yabu for lunch before and it was a traditional soba and udon place. At night, it is completely different! I’m glad I tried, it is so delicious~ Beef Tataki is the best, I can come back again and again for this! The next picture is the Fried Zucchini Flower stuffed with shrimp and lotus root, so good~ It is not on regular menu, what if they won’t have it next time!!?!?

DSC04487.jpgDSC04497.jpgDSC04496.jpgMomotaro Tomato & Asparagus Salad, a bit normal. Uni Sashimi heavenly~ and more sashimi.

DSC04506.jpgDSC04512.jpgDSC04514.jpgCold Udon and Sobayu, ‘stuffing’ for the night. The dessert is Tofu Cheese Mousse, so good~ (we’re looking for its recipe!)

Chocolates (Brandy Cherry, Wasabi, Orange)

//// By in 18: Greater LA

DSC04461.jpgDSC04459.jpgIt is dangerous to lunch at Abbot Kinney, because my collegues and I would ritualistically stopped by the World Gourmet Market and grab a bunch of Chocolates. Here are more: brandy cherry, wasabi and black seseme, Crystalized Orange peel and Ginger. All good except for the ginger one, no ginger flavor and texture too flakey..
DSC04456.jpgDSC04460.jpg We just realized there are instruction for true appreciation at the back of the package of the wasabi flavor: you’re supposed to rub the piece with your thumb to let the aroma flow, then pop in your mouth and let the tongue rest the piece upon the roof of your mouth and let it melt~ ^^;;; I tried, but I lost patience letting it melt which is too slow…

Akbar Cuisine of India (Marina del Rey)

//// By in 14: Marina del Rey

DSC04448.jpgDSC04446.jpgLured here by the recommendation of a very delicious Okra dish, turns out that was for dinner only. Nonetheless the lunch specials are awesome too! There are two other chains in Santa Monica and La Brea, but this one at Marina del Rey is said to be the best. The menu are foreigner friendly with each item rated with their “Chili Meter” from 1 to 5. The Mango Lassi is one of the best I’ve had!!!

DSC04449.jpgDSC04451.jpgDSC04453.jpgthe Samosa is really good. The valued lunch specials are Lamb (very tender and delicious~) and Cauliflower and Potatoes.

Omelette Parlor (Santa Monica)

//// By in 16: Santa Monica

DSC04436.jpgDSC04445.jpgDSC04443.jpgThree of us pale and brooding designers were so not fit in this breakfast place. It’s packed with the beach crowd, everyone looked so tanned and toned. o.O The food are all crazy portion, very fresh tasting but very very normal, though the name s on the menu are all fancy and humorous. My omelette was called Metermaid but really it’s just mushroom and tomatoes inside. It came with walnut muffins that was good. The fried potatoes were so-so. The other was Breakfast Tacos. The nostalgic Americana interior is wonderful~

Ole! Tapas Bar & Spanish Restaurant (Studio City)

//// By in 18: Greater LA

DSC04413.jpgDSC04400.jpgDSC04405.jpgAnother Tapas entry! It’s in Studio City, an area I’m not too familiar with and never really been to. It’s a nice pretty area, even the apartments by the freeway are sooo nice! Electric Magarita, there’s a masquito in it, we asked for another one, and it’s still there (either they didn’t really change it, or the whole bottle is invest with bugs)! So gross…so we didn’t want it anymore and got Sangaria instead, good! Vieras de Peregrino Chamuscadas Seared scallops w/ eggplant caviar & mango sauce.

DSC04419.jpgDSC04421.jpgDSC04423.jpg
Placa Caliente, Tapas plate w/ Calamar Vasco (Calamari), Setas y alcachofas (sauteed mushroom and arichokes), Queso frito (fried goat cheese w/ honey), y Patatas Bravas (roasted potatos). The goat cheese taste the most delicious! Next time just get that alone. Filet a la Plancha, Grilled rosemary flatiron steak w/ anchovy butter. Normal. Ostras de Ole!, Oysters on the half shell. The oysters are so small 🙁

DSC04424.jpgDSC04425.jpgDSC04426.jpg
Anguila y Pina Asadas, Grilled eel and pineapple. Carpaccio de Halibut, Thin sliced raw halibut w/lavender habanero, lychee sauce, basically taste like Sashimi ^^;;; Can’t really taste the lychee sauce though. Torta de Congrejo . Sautéed snowcrab cake w/ scallop & cucumber relish.

DSC04428.jpgDSC04429.jpgChocolate Fondue, served with fresh fruit. Overall pretty good, though I think A.O.C. is better. The bill is about $43 each person for a party of 3.
