Rose Cafe (Venice)

//// By in 15: Venice

DSC04579.jpgDSC04577.jpgI’d love to live or work nearby Rose Cafe in Venice! Another motion graphics place, Motion Theory, locates right next to them. Though they have limited items, you queue at deli area to order your food. I love their Lasagna! The salad it came with is very good!

DSC04571.jpgDSC04569.jpgDSC04570.jpg I ate here long time ago and had their Creme Brulee, and remember it so-so. The walls were painted with these huge beautiful floor-to-ceiling roses, also many paintings for sale (always changing). There’re quite a few of these cafe+shops in Venice. This cafe is another example of what’s quaintessential Venice: bohemian, yoga, hippie/yuppie, arts, organic food, granola, gypsy style, Indian style, beach, tanned, toned and muscle bodies…^^;;

Clementine (Century city)

//// By in 10: Beverly Hills, Favorite Food Entries

Due to road construction it’s very diffiicult to get to this place. There’s only one easy-to-miss way to get there and if you missed it…it’d take forever to go back! I left turn onto the wrong lane so I miss the only pathway that reach this place. After a lot of effort we finally arrived. Despite the difficulty to get to, the place is PACKED! Clementine is a cute cafe located in an upscale hilly neighbourhood (there’s a cute stationary boutique called “Sugar paper” next store, and tons of beautiful expensive houses). You first queue to order food and they’ll bring it to you. The queue line is long, we waited for at least 10 minutes. Kinda hard to endure when seeing all these yummy pasteries along the side.

Freda got the Saturday only Egg Benedict. It is very delicious…the airy butter egg cream sauce is so light and pillowry. The egg is poached! Anything with proscuitto is yummy.

I got the lunch special which is very worth to get. It has a half sandwich, a cup of corn soup and cookie (there are different ones to choose from), only for $7.95! Everything tasted really good, I know when you look at the picture the food seems normal, but I don’t know why they make them so unique and unforgettable tasting. The sandwich has pate with caramelized onion, there are these dots of pink sauce all over the bread, so the pate won’t feel dry and you get just a bit of the sauce for the extra flavor. Everything is really good here, I want to go back again and again (and be part of that neighborhood just for this place *.*).

4th of July BBQ

//// By in 18: Greater LA, Food: Kitchen

DSC04546.jpgDSC04552.jpg
DSC04555.jpgDSC04556.jpgDSC04559.jpgWe had BBQ party at Johnny’s place for the July 4th weekend. It’s a lot of fun, I finally learned how to play poker! 😀 Johnny bought the BBQ stove in the morning and then we went to the market to buy the meat and sauce. We got steak, chicken, sausage, corn and zucchini. The chicken was marinated first with Stubbs Marinated sauce. The steaks are grilled with Stubbs original BBQ sauces Both were were grilled in right timing, good job!! 😀 The sausage has chili and cheese inside. The corn is very very sweet, sweeter than sugarcane sweet, I never had one that sweet before! The zucchini is mixed in olive oil and sprinkled lawrys seasoned salt on the top. Yummy!

DSC04472.jpgDSC04474.jpgBack to Cafe Brazil (see previous entry) and everyone agrees this time it is exceptionally good!!! The chicken (dark meat so very juicy and tender), my god~~ so perfect! I tried their coffee (very good) and was delight to find the sugar was rock candy pop (haven’t seen that since Japan). *O* I can’t get enough of this place, especially the interior!

Venice Bakery (Palms)

//// By in 11: West LA

DSC04464.jpgDSC04475.jpg
DSC04463.jpgHeard much about this Cuban (?) Bakery for their delicious meat pastries. Unfortunately when we got there they were all sold out. They sold out by 11am! We did grab some little beef pastries (they reminded me of Cantonese dim-sum pastries!) and this one I got: Guava Pastry! It is buttery but light, fresh and not too sweet. At first I wasn’t too convinced by the rough and unpolished donuts and cake on the counter, but these authentic & unpretentious, mom n’ pops style do offer good stuffs. The giant turtles look fun!
