A.O.C. Winebar (3rd St.)

//// By in 09: Weho, Favorite Food Entries

DSC04358.jpgDSC04356.jpgDSC04359.jpgFinally try the famous A.O.C. Winebar! A lot of people recommended me it to be their favorite restaurant. It’s also on the Best restaurants in LA list. It’s a tapas place where you share small plates family style. The waitress recommended us the Roasted dates wrapped with bacon and parmesan, it’s really good! She also recommended us the wine, wonderful! Speck with apples and arugula. Not very sure what speck is but it’s very similar to prosciutto.

DSC04363.jpgDSC04365.jpgDSC04368.jpgMussels with roasted tomato and morcilla, good! Fish with green garlic, potato and bay, a bit normal…Grilled skirt steak with aged balsamic aioli.

DSC04369.jpgDSC04371.jpgLamb skewers with artichokes barigoule and walnuts, It’s very good and doesn’t has lamb’s muskiness. braised pork cheeks with horseradish gremolata , not much impression. italian broccoli with garlic and chilis.

DSC04373.jpgDSC04376.jpgAlain’s blanc manger with cherry compote, manger is somewhere between a custard and pudding? It’s very milky with heavy almond flavor, very delicious. Strawberry-rhubarb crumble tart with buttermilk ice cream, so-so. Everything tasted good in general. There were 4 of us and we ordered 10 dishes and a bottle of wine, with tax and tips it’s about $50 per person. I was a little surprised it didn’t cost more.

Back for more Cal-Mexican delights~ My Quesadilla is bacon and cheese inside, tasty but heavy! o.O It came with a Tortilla Soup, very good (it has pieces of tofu-like cheese).

Crazy jumbo Burrito! Taco and Enchilada set. I also had a Margarita and afterward I have to take a nap in the office (Thankfully nothing much to do that afternoon). Old Entry.

La Belle Epogue (Los Feliz)

//// By in 04: Los Feliz

DSC04392.jpgDSC04394.jpgDSC04389.jpgDrove by this place in Los
Feliz, La Belle Epogue, while hungry like a wolf. The brunch menu seems alright, like a generic French cafe with Southern Californian/Mexican flair. Joan had the Vol Au Vent, puff pastry stuffed with poached eggs with sauce hollandaise and sauteed mushroom. The Quiche was light and tasty, soaked with ham~ Though overall not too ‘wow’ to worth going back particularly we weren’t part of this neighborhood.

Dusty’s (silver lake)

//// By in 05: Silver Lake + Echo Park

DSC04294.jpgDSC04297.jpgDSC04298.jpgDSC04300.jpgSo Dustry’s got liquor license and offers dinner now. I tried their brunch and lunch before and I like it a lot, see Old entry. The cute place now is more decorated with these really beautiful lamp shades. the Fillet Mignon, Ahi Tuna Steak, Appetizer plate and the desert (forgot the name, it’s these donut-like dough thing with chocolate and ice-cream). The dinner is good overall, but it’s not overly impressive. We also got their French onion soup and it’s not good either. It’s not cheap either, so….I would just stick with their breakfast and lunch.

Versailles (Culver City)

//// By in 13: Culver City

DSC04343.jpgDSC04347.jpgHeard much about this famous Cuban restaurant in LA, for it is quality, traditional cooking and value. It is famed for the garlic chicken and pork. The place is packed though fortunately no line because we were late. Long ago I mentioned about the Cuban Malta drink. Here it is again, the label saids “A non alcoholic cereal beverage”, it does taste like drinking cereal (because of the wheat flavor) ;D.

DSC04344.jpgDSC04354.jpg

The buttered garlic bread are very good. Chuletas de Puerco (Grilled Pork Chops) – Marinated in citrus juice with garlic mojo sauce, sauteed onion and herbs. The sauce is just the right sourness. The aroma is just heavenly. The pork is juicy. All dishes came with plantains and rice. The rice are all oxtail stewed, gosh love it so much~~

DSC04349.jpgDSC04352.jpg

Lechon Asado Classic Cuban roast pork marinated in garlic mojo criollo sauce, I taste a bit and it’s really good, more tender, I like it more than my pork steak. The chicken breast is a bit dry.
