Ado Chan Collection

More Japanese candy toy. They are mascot keychains based on the work of 70s illustrator/Jazz singer/artist Ado Mizumori (水森亜土). Her character illustrations resemble a bit of Peanuts, except with more delicate, free form lines and soft water colors. I used to have some stationeries with her drawings when I was little. 😀 Tomoko once told me that she never liked her stuffs as a child because they were too complex (was born a minimalist) ha!. In recent years due to the retro-boom there was sort of a revival for her stuffs. Ado’s pen strokes and characters have this un-reproducable 70s charm. These keychains are incredibly tiny (see pill comparison), though quality is so-so. It is impossible to convey her sketchy style in three dimensional form, especially the pen stroke and water-color. It just looked like some generic mascots with the pop, clean solid colors.

Chosun Galbee (Korean town)

I went to this Korean BBQ place Chosun Galbee in Korean Town. Wow it’s so fancy! What’s nice about it is that there’s a big outdoor area, which is perfect for Korean BBQ. It came with somany side dishes (not all in the pix). We got the Rosu beef and Bulgoki (not in the pix), which is about $20 each for a big plate. I like Bulgoki more, very delicious! Though it was definitely too much food for 2 ppl, it’s better to get at least 4 ppl.

French Lentil Salad with golden beets, toasted pepitas, chives and goat cheese in a dijon vinaigrette, $9. Not a big fan of Lentil, there’s not much taste too (it’s not mine). Mushroom Pizza with porcini, shitake and portabello mushrooms, caramelized shallots and smoked mozzarella, $14. This is probably the most yummy pizza I’ve ever had!! >< super yummy! It’s too big for one person so it’s good to share it with someone. Rustic apple tart with ice-cream and caramel sauce. $7. alright.

Candy Toy: Baby Collection

//// By in Collection

foodtoy01s.jpgI’m addicted to Japanese market food toy! The only series I collected was the Asian Goods, since then there’re more and more new ones. My new favorite is MegaHouse’s Happy Story Series: Baby Collection — miniatures of nostalgic 70s baby toys. It’s just simply the cutest thing ever. I remember as a 3 year old I have that Swan toilet and the ball-body dolls. So far I only found them at KidRobot.

La Conversation (West Hollywood)

//// By in 09: Weho

DSC03362.jpgDSC03369.jpgDSC03371.jpgIt took us awhile to find this place at West Hollywood. Exterior and Interior are a bit overcompensate with the “French-ness” ^^;; They’re a casual dining place with all-day breakfast menu, sandwiches for lunch and rather expensive entree for dinner. Though we went there for dessert and it was disappointing. -__-;;; There’s only the cabinet display where you point and choose, and they are all rough looking. The dome mousse one was very bad and the sugar puff one was alright. They were playing Cuban music…so not fit…
