Gingergrass (Silver Lake)

//// By in 05: Silver Lake + Echo Park

DSC03378.jpgDSC03384.jpgDSC03386.jpg Wow finally found a cool Vietnamese place that’s good too ^o^! Gingergrass is my new favorite place in Silver Lake. Surprisingly, the food do taste authentic. Other than the usual Vietnamese dishes, they have some interesting entrees (ex: banana leaf fish). These drinks Basil-Lime Elixir $2.95 are very delicious and refreshing. The Shrimp chip is free (with hoshin sauce).

DSC03389.jpgDSC03392.jpgDSC03395.jpgGreen papaya salad $5.25. Freshly shredded green papaya and carrots topped with a spicy vietnamese vinaigrette, red peppers and caramelized shallots. Good! Sweet and sour seafood Canh Chua $7.50, fish and shrimp served in a tamarind seafood broth, rice noodles, chilies, pineapple, and herbs. The soup is very addictive. Beef Noodle Bowl $7.25, the grilled beef is so tender and tasty, quite possibly the best I’ve had, oh so yummy!

Huston’s Pit BBQ (Hollywood)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSC03344.jpgDSC03342s.jpgDSC03350.jpgDSC03351.jpgGhetto! @o@ I always heard the guys from office go to this place but I never went along. Last Friday I went there for a quick lunch, and wow no wonder no woman ever go there~~ There are BARS in the window! ^^;;; It’s next to a sex shop which has quite a spectacular graffiti wall. Well they’re known for BBQ sandwich. The BBQ burger is indeed very delicious, the meat is so soft and juicy. Even though I know the desert here can’t be good, but we got the coconut pie just for the heck of it. My gosh it’s just all cream with some cocnut slice in there ^^;;;

Manpuku Tokyo BBQ (Sawtelle)

//// By in 12: Sawtelle

DSC03261.jpgDSC03263.jpgVery busy these days and surviving on quick ‘eat-while-workikng’ meal like bread and yogurt for both lunch and dinner 🙁 We stole a night to BBQ grilled at Manpuku where I had lunch before. Plum wine soda. The assorted veggie for grilled are very good, they’re sweeted and tasty with sauce.

DSC03266.jpgDSC03270.jpgThe BBQ grill is quite scary. The gaps are so huge that the meat can slide through vertical so easily. Marinated Rosu beef. Love it, so juicy and wonderful. Though the marinated sauce (sour) kept falling through the gaps as we turn them over…causing huge flame to fly up. o_O;;;

DSC03271.jpgDSC03280.jpgThe salted Harami I like this more, just keep it basic, simple salted meat. YUM! 😀

DSC03275.jpgDSC03276.jpgThe seafood pancake is so so.

btw I re-organized the food categories archives to categorize them more correctly. The “Beach Area” was building up and so now I have seperate archives for each beach. 😀

Toi on Sunset (Sunset)

//// By in 09: Weho

DSC03255.jpgDSC03250.jpg Toi on Sunset is a very interesting place: rock and roll theme Thai restaurant! The interior is excessively decorated by rock posters, records and music equipments (there’s a Laruku’s poster btw -_-;;), and the dragon that’s made out of pipes and random junks is pretty cool. So how’s the food? Surprisingly it taste pretty good!. Well with decor like this, one shouldn’t really worry about authenticity ^^;;

DSC03256.jpgDSC03257.jpgI had the lunch special Chicken Curry Somen, chicken in green curry with bamboo shoots and thai basil over rice noodle, $5.95. The green curry taste quite yummy. Stan had the Red Curry. He got it with brown rice which is very good (according to him). They offer lots of vegetarian dishes as well. There’s a really nice used clothes store Pop Killer next store, everytime me and Stan go there we would always found good stuffs to buy.

101 Coffee Shop (Franklin)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSC03243.jpgDSC03245.jpg Cafe 101 is a hipster diner place. The tiny red T-shirt sleeve on the far left of the 1st pix was Vincent Gallo! He was sitting by himself and looking very pissed .. ^^;;; The Grapefruit juice wasn’t very good, too sour and not fresh.

DSC03247.jpgDSC03248.jpg Tuna Melt sandwich, it’s pretty good! It came with fries and you can asked for yam fries (the orange ones) which are qutie delicious! Chili, not mine, doesn’t seems so good. I had pancakes at night here before and it was very blaahh. You really just go here because it’s suppose to be a “hip” hang out that’s open late night.
