Beacon (Culver City)

//// By in 13: Culver City

DSC03025.jpgI didn’t plan to come here again but I missed my turn so I end up driving here. 3rd time impression: still pretentious, overrated and overpriced -__-;;; This is just very basic Vegetable Curry bowl you know, and it is by far the worst. No taste in the curry at all, and the vegetable taste just as plain water boiled as they are since the tasteless curry were pour over them before serving (and carrots are too hard). Unbelievable~ Though I did overheard from some interesting conversation next table from these two Sony corp executives old American dudes complaining about their translators (the classic Lost in Translaton moment) and life living in Japan.

Orris (Sawtelle)

//// By in 12: Sawtelle

Orris is a gourmet French-Japanese fusion small plates/tapas place in Sawtelle across from Giant Robot, it’s opened by the same chef from Shiro, the French restaurant in Pasadena which I found so-so and overprice. So I was surprised at how good and affordable Orris is!
L: Smoked Scallop with cavior and ikura $9, it’s my first time trying smoked scallop, yummy!
M: Pepper with fried Prosciutto and cheese $6.50, goes well with beer!
R: Lamb Loin $10, the lamb is so soft and smooth, wow, it’s my most favorite dish of the night.

DSC03064.jpg.jpegDSC03072.jpg.jpgDSC03076.jpg.jpg
L: Potato dauphinois in casserole $5, a good and cheap filling dish, delicious~~
M: Ravioli filled with shrimp mousse and Shitake Mushroom sauce $8, good!
R: Chocolate souffle with coffee gelato, the coffee gelato is really good! Very rich coffee flavor.
I’ve grown to like tapas. It’s not unexpected since Dim sum and Izakaya are my favorite type of Chinese and Japanese restaurants too. 🙂 Also I absolutely don’t mind “fusion” when it’s French + Japanese, what a good mixed!

Dusty’s (silver lake)

//// By in 05: Silver Lake + Echo Park

Dsc03082.jpgDsc03086.jpgDsc03091.jpgA new hip French bistro in Silver lake that serves breakfast and lunch (they’re waiting for liquor liscense so no dinner yet). Love the interior decor which is old Parisian-ish with lots of antiques. The dark wood bar is also nice too (and the guy behind is pretty cute ♥), though for now there’s no liquor yet. Fresh strawberry orange juice, very fresh and no sugar.

Dsc03103.jpgDsc03101.jpgDsc03107.jpg French onion soup, so-so, I’ve had better. Crepe with sausage and cheese, it’s quite heavy, average. Provencale Crepe with 3 color peppers, onion, zuchinni. Very good! Their sandwich and omelettes seems good too, I’ll try them next time. Hopefully they’ll get liquor license soon so I can try their dinner menu.

Hanoi Cafe (Sawtelle)

Despite “no good asian food on westside,” I gave this one a try. Even though it seems cheat-gwai-lo at first: the interior is hip and industrial-loft like, menu is so basic and very limited…but the spring rolls is yummy! The grill beef too~ yum! 😀

Cafe Pierre (Manhattan Beach)

//// By in 17: South Bay

DSC02907.jpgDSC02908.jpgDSC02911.jpgLamb Risotto and Pumpkin Ravioli. Both are so-so. The waiter proudly recommended the pumpkin ravioli, claiming that it has been on their menu for 15 years. But seems like there’s only pure plain pumpkin (no cheese or herbs) and the texture of pumpkin didn’t compliment that well with the ravioli…not creamy enough. The dessert is Chocolate Bread Pudding, my god it’s so delicious! I think…this is the BEST bread pudding I’ve ever had!!! *O*
