It’s been awhile since I dine at a more chichi gourmet restaurant. A friend whom I haven’t seen for a long time came back to freelance at IF so I took her to The Hungry Cat that’s near the office. I blog about this place before. The general consensus is that the food is great but overpriced. Salmon salad Sandwich, a bit light tasting. Still good but not amazing…definitely not $14 amazing. I got the Lobster frittata, very delicious! There are lots of big pieces of Lobster so $16 is not too bad. Fresh raw Oyster, it’s $2 a piece so we limited ourselves to 2 per person ^^;; The smaller one (Kumamoto) is better, more sweet and crisp.

I finally tried the much anticipated Spitz: Doner Kebab Shack at Eagle Rock. I ordered the Classic: Paper-thin strips of lamb with Panini-toasted Focaccia bread, Tzatziki sauce and chili sauce. SO GOOD! Really one of the best sandwich I’ve had. The Tzatziki sauce taste a bit like yogurt + blue cheese salad dressing. And the thin lamb meat! Very flavored, tender and smooth. I had the side of Sweet Potato fries that is just one of the BEST ever. My mouth watered as I’m typing. I read from their site that their method is European style, not Turkish. They have gelato as well…I’d try next time.
Pazzo Gelato (Silver lake) and Scoop (Heliotrope Dr)

Pardon the blurry pix. Located near the Sunset Junction, a new gelato place Pazzo Gelato became an instant favorite at Silver Lake. We were there after 11 pm and it was packed, the waiting long queue extended to outside. Their flavors aren’t as innovative as Scoop but there are some interesting ones also. Jon and I tried the Basil lemon and Espresso. Very good!
More from Scoop! We got the Chai + Coffee, Apricot + peach and Melon + banana. All really good! I especially dig the Chai+coffee. There were some crazy flavor this time, such as chocolate curry (!!! taste like very sweet curry…^^;;) and wasabi ginger…

Urth Caffé (Santa Monica)
//// By Freda in 16: Santa MonicaI once tried to go to the Melrose branch but the crowd is just insane. I would stay with the west side branch (old entry here). The manager didn’t seem to be there so no one scold me for taking photos of the food. 😀

Bread Pudding with Cinnamon is really good! Even blended, their coffee is still strong flavor! (Green Tea Latte in front)

Soup + Salad set: Curry Chicken with Raisin, and Manhattan Clam Chowder. The latter is more tasty than it looks! It is like this one *q*, fine chopped ingredients with watery but creamy broth. The bread is very good.

Tuna Sandwich with Vegetarian Chili.
I saw a poster on the wall saying this place is run by energy generated from the solar panels on the roof!
