After our 1st failure ( added way too much black bean paste), this time our attempted at Ja Jiang Mien (Black bean paste noodle, Korean style) is right on! Though we still blind guess the amount of black bean paste and soy sauce, etc., I probably cannot mix the right flavor ever again (need to be more precise and writing down measurement next time). Didn’t have meat though, only Korean cucumber (very crisp) and sweet onion. We didn’t have hand-pulled noodles either, so we used spaghetti instead (similar enough ^^;;)

Right across the street is the much more famous Indo Cafe. I would never have spot it as it’s buried in in a mini mall. Turns out it’s half grocery half cafe. The food is cheap and amazing!

Salad: Ketoprak, didn’t shown in the photo but there’re actually ‘compressed rice ball” inside. The fried thing on the right comes with the salad, I don’t know what it is.

Durian Juice, very good (doesn’t have the strong smell). Chicken Satay. I would have much prefer beef satay but they didn’t have beef that day. As their operation seems rather small, not all items on the menu are guarantee served. Everything on the menu sounds so exotic~~ What a delicious meal, even though served with plastic plates and cups, it’s satisfying. Shared by 4 people~

Nook Neighborhood Bistro (West LA)
//// By Freda in 11: West LAWe spotted a sign “Nook Neighborhood Bistro” at a mini-mall full of pizza and take out food, across from Sasaya. When we went there…hmmm where is it? Turns out it’s very well hidden at the corner…subversive eh?

Organic Half Chicken Roast on frisee with lardons, dried cranberries, toasted pumpkin seed and Nook dressing. Quite good, even though the chicken itself was bland, the skin was crispy and meat quite moist.
Initially we tried to go to Father Office (famous for their burgers) but turn around our car as we saw the long lines outside. I heard that this Nook burger ingredient wise resembles Father Office’s. The dinner was quite good but nothing special.
