Back to Prado! Went with Michelle and few other producers, one of them is leaving the company soon so he wanted a big meal for his last week. We got a pitcher of Sangaria. All the plates look similar but they do taste different ^^;;. Michelle got the Cool sampler which has poached salmon with a side of tomatillo salsa and dill sauce and a salad with papya and pinapple and avocado, as well as a curry salad with apples and chicken. Paella, a lunch special. Blackened Chicken. They all taste good according to the them 🙂

DSC03716.jpgDSC03717.jpg sword fish, a lunch special. I got the Prado Sampler, it’s a very good plate to get to try various stuffs. I can’t really remember exactly what they’re, but there’s tamale, crab cake, some potato thing, shrimp, plantain, and some sort of fish (on the left)? Everything is delicious! The yellow rice on most everyone’s plate is come-with side dish which is very good too.

Blair’s (Silver Lake)

//// By in 05: Silver Lake + Echo Park, Favorite Food Entries

DSC03685.jpgDSC03673.jpgMy friends always recommended me Blair’s and finally tried it. The downside: it is mostly a romantic place filled with dating couples -__-;;; Other than that, I love the food. We shared the Risotto with apples and wild mushroom, $12. It’s simply the best risotto I’ve ever had. I almost regret for splitting it but then even if it’s half portion, the quantity is so much so heavy that I was totally stuff.

DSC03682.jpgDSC03671.jpgAppertizer Rock shrimp and eggs $10 rather normal. The thinly sliced tiny bread is surprisingly yummy, I couldn’t stop eating them. This place is normally packed, we were there early (we halfassly make reservation like 5 minutes before we got there ^^:;;). The desserts were all $9 each, so we gave up.

I found this restaurant from flipping through ads on local free Japanese papers. “A new hip western restaurant in Korea Town” it saids. So we went there and were pleasantly surprised by how NICE it is. Beef Curry Set $10 It came with that big bowl of delicious salad. It also came with housemade pickled radish, quite spicy. The beef is very tender, curry very flavored and yummy. Ooooh so satisfied.

Bolognese Spaghetti $9 Even it’s simple bolognese it is so pretty, with asparagus. 😀 The peach juice is freshly squeezed~ Their non-alcoholic drinks are average $6+, quite $$$. They have a dinner entree menu that is actually appertizer (Fried Oyster, etc), most are quite pricey ($14+). Overall the food’s great, I can’t wait to come back to their other stuffs.

It is located in the midst of the commercial area of Wilshire (nearby Wiltern), when I turn my car into the alley and found its casual upscale elegant exterior I was, “wooo that looked promising.” It has a nice French patio and classical French interior.

Wondertoonel: Mark Ryden Show

//// By in Collection

DSC03529s.jpgDSC03531s.jpgDSC03530s.jpgAll these times I was studying at Artcenter I never knew the existence of this museum. ^^;; Pasadena Museum of California Art has a retrospective exhibition of the paintings of Mark Ryden called “Wondertoonel” that ended two weeks ago. The painting on the left is his latest work from 2005. His paintings are full of motifs of innocence (children, bunny, dolls) in a childlike cotton candy colored sinister world of mysteries, loaded with cultural, religion and political symbols. I love them, it’s amazing to see his works in huge scale all at once in a gallery space. Also you can see as years progress, his paintings get more luscious, rich and colors are less pop and bright. Just from art books you can’t appreciate the detailed, motifs-loaded frames as part of the painting. I read before that he had the frames custom-made in Thailand. Mark Ryden was a fellow Artcenter alumni, his works (along with Clayton brothers’) has been a popular inspiration for many Artcenter students to imitate in recent years.

Cafe Med (Hollywood)

//// By in 09: Weho

DSC03610.jpgDSC03611.jpgDSC03613.jpgDSC03615.jpgCafe Med is an Italian place over at the Sunset Plaza. Carpaccio di Carne con Rucola, Palmitos e Parmigiano thinly sliced beef with arrugola, hearts of palm and parmesan. $11.75. Calamaretti Fritti con Zucchine, Basilico e Salsa Piccante fried baby squid with zucchini, crispy basil served with spicy tomato sauce. $10.75 I’m not too sure what the pasta thing was…could be Pappardelle al Telefone, wide noodle with tomato, basil, mozzarella and cream sauce ^^;; . I like the sliced beef thing the best. Bascially everything taste good! 🙂
