MOCA (downtown LA)

//// By in 06: Downtown LA

Dsc03217.jpg Went to MOCA to see the Visual Music show last Sunday. The show was better than I thought, there are some pretty impressive animations from the 30s and 60s (many crazy psychedehlic stuffs). I’m amazed at how they do it. It was quite inspiring! Thought there are some bad pieces there as well (disco ball with some clubby lightings? Are you kidding me! ^^;;) I had a berries tart at the cafe there, it’s no good. 🙁

Ammo (Highland)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

Dsc03224.jpgDsc03227.jpg
Ammo is a healthy “comfort food” place on Highland Blvd. Michelle and co. took me here to sort of celebrate a belated bday lunch. ^_^ Prosciutto Pizza, I never had such pizza before. There’s very little cheese, the crust is those thin types and the prosciutto was good. It definitely taste healthy. I forgot the name of the brown rice thing, it’s not mine but I had a spoon, it taste good and healthy as well!

They have one of the best Arnold Palmer (Lemonade + ice tea) I’ve ever had, the mixture is just right! Turkey Burger, this is Michelle’s. I like the fries. Chocolate truffle cake , they don’t have much choice for dessert, it taste alright.

Zen Zoo (Vine)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSC03203.jpgDSC03201.jpgDSC03199.jpgDscf0072.jpgThe latest addition to the walking distance casual eat place around the office. Zenzoo is a very slick designy pretentious overprice Asian fusion cafe that “exploits” Asian culture, interior design is overly design with lots of buddhas and bamboos, and with drink names like “green dragon” and sells Asian themes products ^^;;; It’s funny that the first time we went there, Stan said “this place is Zensell!” ^^;; (Zensell is the name of a school project Freda did that made fun of these exploitations), which sound just like their name ^^;; Well like most newly open places, it was quite a hit among some coworkers in the beginning. Though last week a big group of freelancers went there but their order was messed up, and one guy threw a tantrum and made a huge scene @_@. Anyways…their food is not bad/ok, just overprice. Green Tea Latte and Chicken potsticker (baadd). Well it’s actually quite a good place to go by myself when I wanna be alone.

Jin Patisserie (Abbot Kinney)

//// By in 15: Venice

DSC03195.jpg

DSC03189.jpg Finally try Jin Patisserie‘s chocolate. I raved about their cakes before. On the counter I have to make difficult decision to pick 6 from the 20 types into this paper box…gosh… ^^;; Top from left to right: Manga Kalamansi, Lychee, Jasmine. Bottom: Sea-Salt Caramel, Lavender, The du Hammum. The graphical prints and patterns on the chocolates gave the delicate, elegant and modern look~ The chocolates are all light and moussey inside and very flavored with herbs and spices, though so subtle that some taste a bit too similar. They taste too delicate that I ended up craving chocolate bars for more choco-satisfation ^^;;;

Primitivo Wine Bistro (Abbot Kinney)

//// By in 15: Venice

DSC03152.jpgDSC03161.jpgMore tapas~ Primitivo Wine Bistro is simply crazy on Friday night. Our reserved table (tiny little high table) was right next to the bar and the bar crowd kept squeezing onto us. Like Hal on the same street, this bistro/bar is packed with OLDDDDD but err…successful looking 40s-60s people. -_-;;; Right next to us there’s a white hair old man (looked a bit like Ian McKellen) kept flirting with us o_O, despite he had two beautiful Asian ladies with him (one older and younger). He’s a salesman from a film/TV production place, their boss is there as well. The Sangria is alright. We also had white and red wine. The food is wonderful.

DSC03165.jpgDSC03171.jpgDSC03174.jpgChilled Oyster (delicious~), Prosciutto wrapped dates, dried figs and Idiazabal cheese (so good~), and Rosemary skewered Ahi tuna with orange, soy and sherry (tuna a bit too cooked).

DSC03177.jpgDSC03178.jpgThe old man next to us highly recommended this Grilled flat iron steak with pommes frites, paprika, Portuguese salt and chipotle-harsissa, he’s right, it’s really really good! *O* The fries are simply the best I’ve ever had. The steak is just soooo perfect~ my goodness! On the right is the seafood special, it reminded me of Korean side dishes…it’s alright.

DSC03184.jpgDSC03185.jpgTriple Chocolate with Chocolate Meringue, Chocolate Mousse and Chocolate Truffle ^^;;; The old man also recommended the Bread pudding, which I found okay, can’t compare to it.
