Il Bistro (Seattle: Pike Place Market)

//// By in 05: US Other, Travel

DSC02773.jpgDSC02777.jpgDSC02780.jpgDSC02781.jpgPike Place Market is Seattle’s famous landmark (will be in Part 3 Seattle entry). There was this dark alley descend down to a dark Italian restaurant where we would dine. The stone pavement, old flyers & poster plaster all over wall (very cool, almost a deliberate artful collage), parked bike leading to more narrow sketchy looking dark alleys…looked like straight out of a Fellini nightmare. From outside the restaurant was totally dark, only lit from inside with errie red glow. You’d think it’s a mafia hangout place ^^;;. The middle age male host inside looked like from a 70s European movie (greyish platinum blonde long wavy in a 70s grey suit), I totally dig these hints of otherworldly-ness. ^^;;

DSC02786.jpgDSC02788.jpgWe got half a bottle of champagne (and I got another glass later). The bill came out to be $45 for the bottle and $16 for a glass…though it was reallly good but I could have just get cheap cheap red wine. ^^;; Appertizer: grilled scallop with bacon. Jumbo juicy scallop *O*, very good~

DSC02790.jpgDSC02794.jpgDSC02795.jpgJoan:Special of the Day Halibut. Very good, fresh and the sauce is yummy. Freda: Picatta Pan Sauteed Veal Tenderloin with Preserved Lemons, Caperberries & Vin Santo, $25. Normal. Really regret, I should have order seafood or go all out for the $42 lamb. Vero: Cioppino Fresh Local Seafood & Sweet Peppers in a Roma Tomato Broth, $24. This is very delicious, the broth~~ my god…heavenly~~ Lots of fresh seafood.

DSC02796.jpgDSC02797.jpgZabaione Chilled with Fresh Seasonal Fruits, $7.00. Zabaione is a delicate, liquid custard made from eggs and Marsala. Very very good~ *O* The sorbet was ok.

Since the place way too dark so I have use flash, which totally ruin the ‘otherwordly-ness” I fantasized. ^^;;;

Bouchee Cafe (Seattle: Fremont)

//// By in 05: US Other

Dsc02733.jpgDsc02718.jpgDSC02719.jpg
Apparently the Le Pichet brunch wasn’t enough for us so we went to eat crepe at Fremont in the afternoon! ^o^ A boutique’s clerk we chatted with recommended us this place. I love the interior, it has a theatrical feel due to the red wall and huge paintings. The kitchen is open on the right side, and there’s a lounge area in the back for magic shows and jazz bands at night. In front of the cafe is Veronica with her cute mod just-bought umbrella.

Dsc02723.jpgDsc02725.jpgFrench press coffee, very good! I like how the red coffee mug with the retro-style clear plate match the bohemian vibe of the place. They use the red mug as sugar holder which is cute as well.

Dsc02726.jpgDsc02730.jpgDsc02732.jpg
Freda’s: Crepes with grand marnier, vanilla ice cream, Joan’s: Crepes with banana, nutella and Kahlua, Veronica’s: Crepes with apricot jam and hazelnuts. The crepes are a bit hard and stiff which is a little disappointing. Perhaps that’s their style or….? Well they still taste good.

Seattle – Freemont (Part 2)

//// By in Travel

Dsc02698.jpgWe took a bus from downtown for about 15 minutes and arrived at Fremont, possibly Seattle’s hippest neighborhood. It is my favorite place at this trip. It is full of hipsters, record shops, used book store, lots of cute boutiques and coffee houses, artists’ studios, even a weird statue of Vladimir Lenin ^^;; (I dunno why it’s there…didn’t take picture). It’s artsy, hip yet neat. I guess the LA equivalent neighbourhood would be sorta like Abbot Kinney?

Dsc02712.jpgDsc02710.jpgDsc02709.jpgDsc02707.jpgOne of the coolest boutiques there: a women’s clothes boutique Impulse, a men’s clothes stire and a cafe, 3 shops all in one buidling (which is very nice). I bombed quite some money at Impulse, and if you enter from the other side, which is a uphill slope, you go downstair to it as if the shop is underground. There are many nice stuffs there. I got a nice top from this new Vancouver designer Picnic (really cute website!) In the center of the building there’s a colorful graffiti-filled courtyard area which people can hang out and lounge at. Opposite of it there’s a painting studio there, some artist’s painting studio?

Le Pichet (Seattle: Belltown)

//// By in 05: US Other, Favorite Food Entries

Dsc02648.jpgDSC02657.jpgDSC02666.jpg
We have brunch at this cozy French cafe to start the day. 🙂 One thing I love about Seattle is that it has so many unpretentious, authentic and cheap French cafe~ (no Cal-French nonsense). They’re like the decor and spirit that made the city feel more cultural and sophisticated. The coffee is really good. A leap of joy escaped my mouth when I saw the sugar cubes. Well, we were a bit of overdose of coffee at the home of world’s evil coffee empire (there are actually lots of very nice cafes serving really good coffee even though Starbuck is at every stret corner like rest of the world). Home-made yogurt with honeyed Walnut , taste very fresh, airy and milky.

DSC02672.jpgDSC02667.jpgDSC02674.jpg
Raw Oysters with mignonette sauce, grilled chipolata (apple) sausage $11, heavenly (sausage not on pic) Pate albigecois $6 Country style pork pâté with honey and walnuts Two eggs broiled with ham and gruyere $8. All very good~

Beautiful flowers, nice city view from the window, what a perfect morning~

Palace Kitchen (Seattle: Belltown)

//// By in 05: US Other

Dsc02621.jpgDsc02624.jpg We started our Seattle eating journey right away when we just arrived at midnight. ^_^ Vero took us to a lounge bar/restaurant nearby her apartment, Palace Kitchen, that has kitchen opens till 1:00 am, they even have a “midnight breakfast.” It is really dark inside.

Dsc02622.jpgDsc02633.jpg
Laura Chenel goat cheese fondue, serve with grilled bread and apple, $7.5. cheese plate $16, from bottom to top: Humboldt Fog: a tangy goat’s milk cheese with an ash rind, Sublimity: a mild cow’s milk cheese, Les Freres: a pungent washed rind cow’s milk cheese, San Andreas — a fruity aged sheep’s milk cheese, Ewe’s Blue: a sheep’s milk blue cheese. I like San Andreas and Ewe’s Blue the most. And 2 cocktails: Pear Brandy and ??? (I forgot already ^^;;).
