Seattle – Belltown (Part 1)

//// By in Travel

Dsc02647.jpgWe had a wonderful weekend at Seattle! Even though it started off stressfully: typical national flight nightmare, this time it’s Alsaka Airline…never ever ride with them again. First I got stuck in traffic on my way to the airport for 2 hours due to massive car accidents happening at the same time at all major freeways. So I was about 5 minutes late to my check-in time, and they didn’t let us on our 5:30 pm flight and bummed us to the next one at 6:30 pm. Just as I thought my bad luck was over, the 6:30 pm flight got delayed till 9:45 pm (!!!). So we rushed to the counter to get on the standby list to an earlier flight (7:40 pm). After bunch of nerve wracking anxious waiting and chaos at the overcrowded broading area (because of many unfortunate fellow passengers who tried to hop on earlier flights like us), the 7:40 flight was quickly filled up before it got to us. So we immediately ran to another counter to check if we could get on the next flight (8:15). We were the last two persons to got on that flight, I felt like winning the lottery. We arrived at Vero’s place almost midnight. -__-;;;

Octopus (Manhattan Beach)

//// By in 17: South Bay

DSC02588.jpgDSC02595.jpgDSC02596.jpgDSC02598.jpgWe celebrate the end of the project at this sushi place called Octopus at Manhattan Beach. It only opened at night, and seemed authentic enough. Preston never eat at sushi bar before so I handled all the ordering. If he were to order he’d just get Tuna, spicy tuna, tuna roll…tuna everything. He never had sea urchin, fresh oyster, tamago…quite amusing to watch his reaction. ^^;; The oyster was wonderful~ 😀 The uni was not so fresh though (bitter). I didn’t order sashimi so I can’t judge if they’re fresh. With beers, dessert (mochi icecream, another ‘new discovery’ for Preston), tax and tips, it’s $60 total. Turns out the projects isn’t really over yet, the day after there are tons of urgent changes and it was just crazy. The client suddenly requested more things. So our celebrations was too early, argh…

Nha Trang (Valley)

//// By in 01: San Gabriel

DSC02567.JPGDSC02568.jpgDSC02573.jpgSuddenly craved Pho so we try a random Vietnamese restaurant. We had ‘err…’ moment when we went inside and saw a Taiwanese boba drink counter. Other than that the place seems good and authentic. ^^;; The Bamboo Shrimp Roll comes with this special egg sauce that’s very yummy. The beef Pho is wonderful: big portion, yummy soup, all kinds of beef parts. Crab Vermicelli noodle. I never try this before so it taste so unique and fresh to me. The soup has lots of tomatos in it, the crab is scramble with eggs. There’s even pig blood in it. Their menu seems to be quite unique, looks of dishes you don’t see in other Vietnamese places. I’ll definitely go back whenever I crave Pho 🙂 It’s cheap too, with 2 drinks in the end it’s about $22 total with tax and tips.

Arthur De Pins

Got the link from Vero, check out http://www.arthurdepins.com/, click on L Eau de Rose (2nd icon on the right column) , a very cute and funny short animation! I love it very much. The drawings is cute and love the colors. The animation is very well done. The story is simple yet thoughtful, using the ferris wheel as a symbol for relationship. The end credit is neat too!

Maison Akira (Pasadena)

//// By in 02: Pasadena, Favorite Food Entries

DSC02544.jpgDSC02545.jpgDue to a Feng Shui supersititious, RP treated us to dinner at Maison Akira to celebrate her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY woman~! \^o^/ (we’re going to treat you even better next time ^_-). Originally we booked Malo (at Silverlake) but it is not a vegetarian-friendly place. Neither is French really. ^^;; Anyway we lunched here before (entry here & here). The waitress recognized us already (“Oh the sisters~” she said ^^;;). So I’m glad to try their dinner menu. A small free appetizer to stimulate appetite: Taro and Eggplant. I like that the Taro is firm and not mushy, the taste go well with the eggplant mousee and the sauce. A bottle of Vouvray $32. Very sweet :).

DSC02548.jpgSeared Ahi Tuna & Duck Foie Gras Napoleon with Fresh Mango and Corn Celery Root Gateau in a Port Wine Truffle Sauce $29. The foie gras was airy yet smokey, lovely~ *O*

DSC02553.jpgGrilled Duck Foie Gras in a Port Wine Truffle Sauce on Grilled PineApple & Daikon Confit $18.00. I wasn’t so hungry so I only ordered the appetitzer Foie Gras. It’s delicious, but I think the one I had in Devon was better. I like that it comes with mushroom though :).

DSC02558.jpg Layered Slow Roasted Winter Vegetables Wrapped in Phyllo with a Spinach Truffle Oil $21 Being a vegetarian, RP doesn’t really have much choice, especially at French restaurants. So it’s nice that they have such fancy veggie dish!

DSC02560.jpgDSC02562.jpg Chocolate brulee with Mango Sorbet and strawberries. Custard in crispy layers with rasberries. Both taste good, just rather normal. We saw other tables get this fancy basket thing dessert which looks interesting, don’t know what it is! Someday I’ll like to try their dinner course.
