Tandoor-A-India (Playa del Rey)

//// By in 14: Marina del Rey

DSC02364.jpgDSC02370.jpgNonstop thunder storm today. We attempted to drive to Manhattan Beach but we were ‘blocked’ by scarily heavy wall of rain when we got there, the vision were totally blurred and the roads half-flooded so we had to turn back. We found this cheap local Indian place nearby. It is built on a steep slope that the fear of mudslide did crossed my mind ^^;; The Naan bread is very good, soft, buttery, freshly baked! I can eat that forever!

Mango Lassi $2.5 taste too light. 🙁 We had the Buffet $6.95. We didn’t expect it since the place is so small, but somehow they manage to fit a room full of buffet servings. I don’t know what the food are: the giant crispy thing is very heavy mixed of curry potato bean inside. The dark green paste is spinach, and There’re potato curry, chicken, assorted fried vegeteble, etc. They’re all tasty, better than my expectation.

Left pix is various dips and sauce. The unnaturally bright ice-green thingy tasted like salsa. The chips (from buffet plate) taste like a thinner, smoother and better tasting tortilla. Right: rice-pudding dessert. The ball is a donut-like thing that’s soaked with sweeten honey sauce. Nice value for so much food!

Beacon (Culver City)

//// By in 13: Culver City

DSC02326.jpgDSC02328.jpgBack to No.1 Best of 2004 (according to LAmag) for lunch, giving it another evaluation. It is fully packed, all the customers are yuppies in their 30s-40s that correlate with pretentious-ness and overpricey vibe inside. Yaki Udon $8.50 soooo plain~ but strangely addictive as I couldn’t stop eating it. The udon are very fresh. But still…it’s just plebeians’s yaki noodle with cabbages. Albacore BLT Sandwich $8.5 with Wasabi mayonaise sauce. Nice, not big wow. The wasabi get quite strong at times (teary eyes).

DSC02330.jpgOnce again I’m disappointed by Beacon, just I was about to protest “overrated!!!” They’re redeemed by the exceptionally wonderful dessert! Green Tea and White Chocolate Cheesecake $6.5 SO GOOD! XD But still, the mango brulee we had last time was more unique and unforgettable. I’ll probably only come back here for dessert in future, they’re so pricey anyway.

Little Lamb Cafe 小肥羊 (San Gabriel)

//// By in 01: San Gabriel, Favorite Food Entries

DSC02303.jpgDSC02287.jpgFinally go to the much anticipated Chinese-Mongolian lamb hot pot chain Little Lamb Cafe (小肥羊). The picture of the empty interior is a rare sight when you were there as early as 5:30pm. Soon this place is fully packed with long waiting lines.

DSC02289.jpgDSC02292.jpgWe order the Yin-Yang soup base (herb soup and spicy soup). There’re ginseng, dates, and tons of medicine herbs and ingredients, very flavored, rich and healthy tasting. We order Top Grade sliced lamb and chicken. The chicken breast is too rough but it’s for my friend who avoids red meat, but she ended up eating the lamb. The lamb is just too heavenly~~

Kobawoo House (Korea Town)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

DSC02267.jpgDSC02273.jpg

Went back to Kobawoo House! They’re most famous for the pork wrap Bosam. Boiled Pork with fresh nappa cabbage and spicy mixture all around. Use the pickled raddish and nappa cabbage as the base, then put the slice pork and spicy raddish and salty fish on them, wrap it and eat it. Very delicious, so many flavors in one.

DSC02275.jpgDSC02280.jpg

Jangban Cuksoo, Specially prepared acorn noodles with assorted vegetables. It’s cold noodle so it’s almost like a salad. Fish with raddish, dunno the name ^^;; The sauce is thick miso/bean paste-like, which is very strong flavor and is really delicious.

DSC02282.jpgHaemul Pa Jun, sizzling seafood pancake with mixture of scallops, shrips, oyster, squid, clam with green onion. The top layer is golden and crispy, yummy! I can see it being something I’ll often get if I go to Korean restaurants that offer it.

DSC02276.jpgDSC02278.jpg

Bean paste soup, a bit like miso, but stronger and more bean flavor. Kimchi soup We eat these soups with rice for balance.

DSC02269.jpgDSC02271.jpg The side dishes. All good. This time they didn’t have the beef one I really like from lunch before. There were five of us and we order a bit too much food because one more person supposed to come but couldn’t make it. With Tax+ tips, it’s $18 per person for the party of 5.

Manpuku Tokyo BBQ (Sawtelle)

//// By in 12: Sawtelle

DSC02247.jpgDSC02244.jpg

Joan went to Korean town two days in a row having awesome Korean food but unfortunately I had the camera!!! 🙁 My mouth watered as I hear about them, I want Korean food too!! >O< But since I’m on the west side, I can only settle for Japanese kind.

DSC02252.jpgDSC02253.jpg

Karubi Udon Set $7.75 and Ishiyaki Bibinpa $7.75 So hot, so warming, so satisfying! This place seem to be owned by a Japanese corporation who owned a couple other restaurants in Japan.
