Empanada’s Place

//// By in 11: West LA, Favorite Food Entries

I was at the door of this Argentina Pastries place yesterday and found that they don’t open on Mondays. 🙁 That made me craved empanadas even more~

The walls are adorned with tango photos and Argentinian soccer spirit.

So many stuffings to choose from! I chose Arabe, with lemon and beef. So flavored so juicy~ The pastries are golden and crusty, and most importantly, not that oily!

Ricotta cheese one is my favorite, so creamy so tasty! Criolla (beef and raisin) is very good too. They all taste distinctly different. So satisfied, but obviously can’t eat that everyday (doesn’t seem healthy for you ^^;;). My colleagues both got the Spicy beef that they can’t stop raving about, I gotta try that next time.

After meal, I got these really good caramel cookies. They have thick creamy caramel (not too sweet) covered with coconut, sandwich between shortbread cookies (light and puffy). A bit of research and I found that they were called Alfajores. *O* I can come back here everyday.

Blue Marlin (Sawtelle)

DSC09806.jpgCan’t resist, just too good. 101 youshoku (Japanese western food) Hamburg Steak with demi-glaze sauce and Cheese Omelette. It’s raw-ish liquidy inside the omelette…LOVE it! I’m impressed by the grilled veggie sides too. ^^;;;

Haejangchon Dolgooi (Koreatown)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

Finally I can try their stoned grilled BBQ. We got the $44 set (shared by 3). Came with a bottle of soju.

None of us dared to eat those chilli pepper (you just dip it with miso paste and bite them). Love the chill pear soup and dried squid.
DSC09796.jpgDSC09795.jpg
Kimchi pancake on the side but they got soggy because we left them unattended. Beef Brisket.
DSC09793.jpgDSC09798.jpg
The dippings. Also came with these big slices of pickled radish (not in photo) that you can wrap the beef (yum!). Marinated Beef Rib.
DSC09803.jpgDSC09801.jpg
By then we were already so full. The meal ended with a very yummy Sunrise Soup and Kimchi Fried Rice. The seaweed gave it such a heavenly smell. So oily but GOOD!

Unfortunately we were too busy chatting that a lot of the beef were burnt. ^^;;

Auntie Em’s Kitchen (Eagle Rock)

My friend recommended this Eagle Rock neighborhood restaurant for really good breakfast. I love it already when I saw the lovely little red house and gourmet market (wine, cheese, jam, etc) inside. I knew this is going to be great. The coke bottle is maple syrup.

The mug graphics is their awesome logo! The sausage was a bit too spicy (love the plate).
DSC09780.jpgDSC09775.jpg
Spinach and Shitake Mushroom Scramble with Brie is so delicious! *q* The buttery toasted bread and non oily roasted potatoes are so incredible. Blueberry French Toast, my friend who’ve been here recommend this. The french toasts are golden cripsy outside soft inside. I like the blueberry sauce alot.

It’s basically a house with a small narrow yard turn to patio cafe. Great food, great vibe~ I Love the cactus, love the retro kitschy table cloth and plates~
