I just realized, my office isn’t that far from Hermosa Beach, plus the weather was so beautiful, it would be a great lunch break drive along the blue coast. So I went back to the French crepe place Crème de la Crêpe, this time free of World Cup mania.

Breakfast Crepe with Ham and Cheese. Simple, Yum! I got the Macaron, Icecream with Strawberry Couli as dessert, a bit too sweet and hard to tell the flavor apart. The texture was a bit sticky. I still enjoy it.

I came back another time just for dessert: Maron Crepe, so good~
Crème de la Crêpe (Hermosa Beach)

//// By Freda in 01: San Gabriel, Favorite Food EntriesFamily dinner at an old neighborhood Cantonese seafood restaurant for over 10 years nearby my parent’s house, while they were pretty good before, their menu has changed and quality have improved greatly recently (new chef perhaps?).

Super delicious Clam, steamed with a very fresh flavored broth. The ultimate Cantonese delicacy: Sharks Fin Soup, $10 each, rich flavored, very good bargain.

Left: Scallop and Mushroom with Pumpkin, simple yet so savory. Right: XO Sauce Oyster with Sticky Rice so delicious~ despite the XO sauce is strong taste and spicy, they never override the fresh taste of the oyster itself. The sticky rice is a surprisingly nice touch to the texture.
Tofu with Chinese Sausage. The tofu is a special (and expensive) kind that I don’t know the English name. Even though it is the only non-seafood dish, it’s actually the hightlight. The texture is so unique…very delicate yet firm and chewy at the same time. Addictive!

Comfort cafe is comfy indeed. A cute cafe in Silver lake recently started to offer brunch. Perhaps that’s why it’s still rather unknown and not flooded with the weekend brunch crowd like other silver lake places. Though that doesn’t mean their food isn’t good. The Egg benedict and french toast we got are both fantastic and reasonbly priced. They’ve got lunch menu and there’s a deli section too. Supposely they have great pasteries (the chef was on the first season of Top Chef?) but the baked goods section were empty when I was there. All the tables have chalk board surfaces that’s accompanied with a little cup of chalks. There goes my drawing of Jon and me 😛
Quiche+Salad and Meatloaf (I got half size, good!)

Il Chianti (Lomita)
//// By Freda in 17: South BayI had a wonderful dinner at this Japanese Italian chain Il Chianti before, I came back to try their lunch. They kept the Japanese way: $8-10 set lunch that includes everything from drinks, soup, salad, and dessert!

Pork soup and salad (w. delicious Japanese salad dressing).

Pasta of the day is Tomato sauce with Pork and zucchini and a so-so Bacon Wrap (should have just got Pasta-only). Joan got their Lunch Plate which is basically a sampler plate, with the same pasta/salad I had plus Beef Tongue.
Macha Bavarois with creamy milky red bean sauce, so good! Despite the incredible deal, and pasta being very well made, I craved for more unique flavor. That’s why lunch sets are always a dilemma: should I get the preset Lunch set that comes with everything, or just one pasta of my true craving…^^;;
They’re having an anniversary all-half price celebration on 10/19 (hope I remember right).
Pinkberry (Melrose)

Finally try the very hyped yogurt from Pinkberry. Apparently there’s a yogurt boom in LA right now thanks to Pinkberry. For quite some time there was only one shop in LA locate at West Hollywood. Now it’s multiplying fast. There’s one opened on 6th street in Koreatown and another coming soon in Larchmont village. A new one opened on Melrose Ave. next to the ever-so-crowded M de Chaya, now with Pinkberry the parking situation is going to be get worse. Unwisely me and my colleagues went there around 5:00 pm. ^^;; We lined up a bit, it wasn’t too bad as the WeHo one. They have two flavors: original and green tea, plus various toppings to choose from. The yogurt taste fresh and milky, not too sweet or sour. It’s definitely a good refreshing and healthy sweet treat, especially for summer time. Though I don’t think I’m crazy enough to go back specifically for them. I still much prefer gelato which I definitely won’t mind make effort to drive to/line up for!
