Cafe 2 @ MoMA (NYC: Midtown)

//// By in 03: NYC, Favorite Food Entries

While Freda went to work, I spent my time at MoMA, especially since it’s raining outside. I went to the “very gourmet” cafe on 2nd floor Freda raved about last time. Wow it is very very good indeed. Forgot the fancy name of this dish but it’s Baked Egg with Prosuitto, so delicious! And the Chocolate Chesnut Tart is so incredibly good! >O< Why can’t this cafe be available on its own? It’s almost worth to pay $12 (with student discount :P) for the museum entrance to just eat there!

DSC08207.jpg Due to the new year time square thing, the whole Midtown area is totally jam pack with crazy crowd. I had to queue in the rain on the street for an hour or so to get in to buy ticket! >_< Lost of screaming kids too due to the Pixar show, in which there’s a very amazing zoetrope installation that was inspired by (aka copied from) a Totoro installation from a Studio Ghibli exhibition in Japan. There were way too many people in the museum overall, made it hard to see and appreciate the arts.

Staying @ Jersey City

//// By in Travel

I’m staying at the company’s hostel…hehe it’s actually boss’s friend’s place at Jersey City. Despite the 40 min commune to Manhattan, it is so incredibly huge~

Living room and the room I stayed in.

I think the place is almost 2000 sq. ft. and has very high ceiling. A co-worker (the owner’s brother) also stayed in the house but since it’s so huge it doesn’t matter. He even baked his own marshamellow pumpkin pie, very good! Seems like a lot of the furnitures are from West Elm ^^;; (as I’m so familiar with their catalog) and lots of nice modern vintage stuffs.

Jen’s Cooking for X’mas Party

//// By in Food: Kitchen

A friend of ours did a one-woman show by cooking the party of five a delicious Chinese gourmet dinner for christmas eve!
DSC08138.jpgDSC08148.jpg
Fuzhou fishball and Roasted Steak (very tender and buttery!)
DSC08141.jpgDSC08133.jpg
I don’t know these dishes in English~ o_O The right dish has lamb. Really really good, very advance level cooking, Jen is an amazing cook!
DSC08134.jpgThe steamed crab! There was a bit of scare when the cook found the still-alive crab she bought didn’t had the legs tied down. She got so scare when cleaning because it struggled and legs all crawling in the air…

Alright see you guys in New York~

Furaibo (Sawtelle)

//// By in 12: Sawtelle

Back to this Japanese pub and tried to order different things. Seems like a lot of things taste rather similar, especially fried food.
DSC08095.jpgDSC08093.jpg
Very good Ume sauce beef tataki.
DSC08101.jpgDSC08097.jpg
The Fried chicken wings are their signature dish…hmm…oily but quite tasty. Enoki mushroom with fish, very good.
DSC08107.jpgDSC08110.jpg
Miso Oyster, sweet! Duck.
DSC08103.jpgDSC08112.jpg
Fried fish and Agedashi tofu (now I know what it is ^^;;).

I guess there’re only oh-so-few Asian hung out places on the west side that I bump into a few Artcenter alumni (trying to remember their names, def. awkward moment…)

Clementine (Century City)

//// By in 10: Beverly Hills

Lunch special: medium rare roasted beef sandwich (yum!) and pea soup. Goat cheese and Pear salad.
DSC08085.jpgThere’s no longer free parking on the side street making going to this cafe either harder (as if the never ending confusing road construction wasn’t bad enough). My x’mas holidays consist of nonstop Holiday shopping…for my mother. I went back to exchange her gifts 4 times. She either complain about how the sweater I got her made her look fat or it has no collar…etc. And 3 of those times were at the crazy Century City mall (I started to hate that place).
