サーロインステーキ、ペーパーコーンソース、¥1700。
Back to this place for lunch twice as I couldn’t think of better places to eat in Shinagawa. Grilled sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce. Not amazing but not bad for the price. Better than BBQ pork rib I had before.

T.Y.ハーバーバーガー(リアルアメリカンスタイル)、¥1600。
T.Y.Harbor burger, homemade brioche bun with fries (Plus topping +100). I had cheese and avocado topping so it was 1800yen in total. The patty was quite rare which got me a bit worried, but the hamburger delivered to the next table was just as red(I peeped) so I guess it was meant to be like that. For some reason, there was not enough salt for the patty, but the burger was still better than sirloin steak and pork rib I tried in this restaurant.

Could have sit outside in the “open terrace” overlooking the little “harbour”, but was a bit cold that day so we decided to stay inside. Ice peach tea that comes with lunch is refillable.

バーベキューリブ、T.Y. オリジナルソース、チーズ&ガーリック風味のフレンチフライ添え。
デビッドのニューヨークチーズケーキ。
B.B.Q. back ribs(pork) with T.Y. original bourbon B.B.Q. sauce, garlic and cheese fries, 2000yen. So huge!! My friend who used to live in U.S. for many years said this is not even close to “half-size” portion there. I am sure it depends where you go, cos I’ve never seen a really scary portion during my trip to US. Anyway, the pork is a bit dry. I wanted beef steak but lunch menu has very limited options. The fries and side salad are good though.

David’ s NY cheesecake, 500yen. I was so stuffed from the pork but I wanted to try the desserts so two of us shared this. I was expecting hard type of cheese cake(my image of NY cheesecake) but this one is very soft, more like the Japanese souffle cheesecake.

The pork was a bad choice, but my friend’s sandwich lunch(1500yen) seemed better.

N.B. It is under the same management as here and here. I prefer these two restaurants but they are more expensive.

恵比寿 にんにくや (Ninnikuya)

ガーリックトースト。エスカルゴ。
A restaurant specialised in garlic. It has garlic in every single item in the menu! I have heard so many positive reviews about this restaurant that I’ve been dying to try it. Surprisingly it doesn’t stink of garlic that badly inside and the interior is much nicer than I expected(somehow I thought this place was an izakaya).

The garlic toast is very unique – the staff told us to cut a hole in the bread and squeeze the garlic paste into it. Delicious but oh so very oily. Escargot is good too(more like the sauce is good).

にんにく丸揚げ、¥990。トマトソースパスタ。
Fried whole garlic tasted of soy sauce. It is amazing how such a simple dish can be so good…couldn’t stop eating it. Tomato sauce pasta also has garlic in it.

豚ロース黒こしょう香草グリル、¥1870。カルーアパンナコッタ、¥440。
Grilled pork loin with black pepper and herb. A bit salty to eat on its own but the pork is soft and tender. Mashed potato on the side is good. Kahlua panna cotta is so so but the water melon is sooooo refreshing after all that garlic!

One of my friends actually got a little sick halfway because of garlic-overload. My stomach was fine though I felt like I was having a fever the whole night and my breath stank the next day….
Today’s special menu here.

Main courses are chosen from the menu and are served when you are done with appetizers. I had the Grilled Australian Rib eye beef in ox-tail sauce, with celery root in remoulade sauce on the side. My friend had Grilled pork loin, mashed potato and cabbage in mustard sauce. While the main dishes aren’t as good as the appetizers, they are fairly decent.

Pork fricassée. Belgium Chicory(Belgian Endive) gratin. Chocolate terrine.

I’m not a big fan of beer but I have a soft spot for Belgium beer, especially those with fruity flavours. This Belgium pub has an extensive menu of imported beer with prices ranging from 900yen to over 2000yen per glass(pretty small glass). Food menu is surprisingly decent for a pub – most of the stuff we ordered turned out to be quite okay. Value for money varies from item to item – the stomach-filling pita bread sandwich is the same price as the pickles!

Tan Tan noodles, with sauce or without sauce. I had the one without soup at the original restaurant before(see tag), so I tried the one with soup. I like the one with soup better. The portion of the noodles is smaller for each person as we shared, so I could finish and enjoy it before getting tired of the taste.
08022300680802230069
Almond pudding. Black sesame dumplings.

The food is spicy but is actually okay. Other than the non-spicy dishes, every dish is seasoned with Szechuan pepper. I like mapo tofu, steamed chicken, fried prawn and pork in spicy sauce(you can choose beef or chicken too). I think the food is not bad, and the price is reasonable for Tokyo. But I can’t help feeling that Chinese food ought to be more generous with ingredients and cheaper…

0801270121Egg Benedict. I have been wanting to try the Egg Benedict in this place for so long but somehow never got around to it. The quality doesn’t disappoint at all! The best I have eaten so far(not that I’ve tried that many).

There are two branches of this coffee shop in the same area. Only this branch in Azabu-Juban does Egg Benedict, which is only available on weekends and it runs out quickly. We went at around 12 on a Sunday and the place was quite packed but we managed to get seats. When we lined up in front of the counter to get our food, my friend ordered hers first, and when my turn came, the staff told me they had run out of Egg Benedict! My other friend bebind me and I were so devastated – we came especially for it. For about 5 mins not knowing whether to order something else or go someplace else, I tried begging the staff saying that we came a long way just to eat the Egg Benedict here. Then the male staff said that if we could wait for 30mins then he will make them for us. Of course we wait!! So I ordered the corn soup cos I was so hungry, though it took them almost half an hour to prepare the corn soup anyway….The food was so good that it was worth the effort but gosh why is it so difficult to get a bloody Egg Benedict in Japan?! ^^;;;

Very good-value lunch buffet. I especially like the French toast, egg benedict(though not the usual fare with English muffins) and omelette. The restaurant is inside Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi Hills. Compared to New York Grill, I like all the hotel-breakfast menu here, but I think the appetizers and the desserts are better in NYG(the salad and appetizers are slightly on the oily side here). FK is cheaper though.
Menu here.

Went back on a weekday for the lunch buffet. It was much cheaper(Y3800) but there wasn’t as much variety of dishes as the weekend buffet – all the breakfast items(omelette/french toast) were not available. Also it didn’t come with champagne. I had the fish for the main this time, which was just okay.
